We're grateful for the support of the Inner West Sydney Medicare Local in getting the message out to their practices, inviting doctors to participate in the Study.
Our initial estimate of the number of doctors needed to find the thirty subjects for the study was revised upwards on the advice of Professor Ian Caterson in a recent meeting at Sydney University. Firstly, he pointed us in the direction of the Inner West as the area in which diabetic control was inherently difficult, and where HbA1c was far more frequently above 7.5% (58 mmol/mol - a study requirement) than elsewhere.
Prof Caterson also provided other valuable input, and advice that the planned protocol was an acceptable intervention trial for the six months duration, and an evidence-based approach that any GP could reasonably adopt as a trial of treatment in the HbA1c range of 7.5% – 9.0% (58–75 mmol/mol).
Again, thank you to both Prof Caterson and the Inner West Sydney Medicare Local for their help.
